ZAVNOBiH restored the statehood of Bosnia and Herzegovina, confirmed its historical, political and state-legal individuality and established the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

With its Resolution at the Constituent Assembly and the Proclamation of the People of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the night of November 25-26, 1943, ZAVNOBiH restored the statehood of Bosnia and Herzegovina, confirmed its historical and political and state-legal individuality and established the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which the most relevant legacy of the anti-fascist war.

On that occasion, it was stated that the peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina “want their country, which is neither a Serb, nor a Croat, nor a Bosniak, but a Serb, Croat and Bosniak state, to be free and united, in which there is full equality of Serbs, Bosniaks, Croats and of other peoples, nationalities, citizens”, and that everyone in Bosnia and Herzegovina will participate equally with the other peoples of Yugoslavia in building a common future.

The founding assembly of ZAVNOBiH was attended by 247 delegates from all parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina who elected the Presidency, which consists of 31 members, and the president was Vojislav Kecmanović, doctor of medicine from Bijeljina. The Presidency of ZAVNOBiH performed its functions between sessions, as the highest political authority in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
